When you conduct a genuine research, you need to present the outcome of research in an attractive form. Effective writing presents your ideas in an attractive way. Peer review is always helpful in making a final draft. It might depend on the positive or negative reviewing.

Funny, this issue was included in one of the professional tweets in our school division. The Tweet presented an interesting article at http://lifehacker.com/5885282/not-being-a-troll-isnt-enough-a-handbook-to-being-a-model-internet-citizen. Several excellent points raised, the question is how do we instill these ideals into society.

I don't think writing needs to be peer-reviewed for it to be considered credible. Any review of writing is always subjective to the person reviewing the writing. In my opinion, credibility has more to do with the ethics and methods used for research than the writing. Any craft requires an opportunity to practice, and blogging is a great way to practice the craft of writing.

My understanding of online forum and blogs is that these two are similar in way that both involve communities, and could attract more and more people. However these are different in a way that a blog author has a full control of the topic and readers can make a comment or ask a question. It is more like a presentation and when the speaker ends than audience comment on the same topic but they can not change the topic. An online forum is like a two way conversation where any one can start a new topic. This is my understanding and I am not sure it is right or wrong.

Similarities exist. Opportunity for dialogue and debate, archival of collaborative efforts and, of course, to share with a wide and far reaching audience.

The differences are more telling, I believe. First off, blogs have greater affordances when it comes to message construction. It is much easier, or so I have found, to incorporate multimedia and the like within a blog than discussion forum.

Secondly, blogs have the option of creating tags or categories to help search relevant posts by topic.

There seems to be more 'connectivism' with blogs than discussion forums. While looking through my chosen blogs, I was constantly amazed at how far I would progress from the initial blog post to linked articles.

Blogs are more addictive.

I agree, a question is much easier to elicit a response. The similarities between on line forums and blogs is the ability to respond after some thought and research. This feature alone allows for deeper thought and indepth exploration of the subject.
